Format code w/ leading tab no work UNIX; does NT Can't Post

< Sorry for the butchered english on the title...but I needed to make sure all the inportant info was in there. >

What is the deal with Unix/Perl (or is it just me?)

After a bit of troubleshooting, I just found out that the scripts that I wrote with leading tabs (which works great on my NT box &/or my version of ActiveState PERL) doesn't run on Unix boxes (1dollarhosting.com).

It took me a while to figure it out since the code was correct...I just needed to format the code down 1 tab. (???)

Example:

########<with leading tab> This one DOES NOT work
print "Test";

########<without leading tab> This one DOES work
print "Test";

Any ideas? I have reformatted all my code so everything is working again but was just curious why this would be the case.

Well... it could be the flavor of unix your on, or they are running an old version of perl that was sensitive to that. I'm on RedHat Linux and running perl 5.006. I don't have that problem. In your script you can print "$]"; and it will tell you what version of perl you're running, and $^O will tell you the name of the os running the server. You should ask the server admins about it really becaus eI couldn't come up with the same problem using different versions of perl.

Sooooo, ask 1dollarhosting about it, and if they don't know then I'd go to powersurge.net (a fine hosting company) and get an account with them. There hosting packages are pretty inexpensive for what you get. There service is very good. I think in the two years I've been with them my server has gone down maybe 8 - 15 times. And they upgrade perl and php with every new stable realese.
