Communication with Web Server Can't Post

Hi,
I have a question related to communication with web server. I have tried to send data to a CGI script using a socket program. But I cant see any thing on the browser when i tried to print that stuff using CGI script. I did not use port 80 for communication. The CGI script was coded as server using a 4 digit value (port number) and the client was also using the same 4-digit value for the port. Kindly guide me what should be the correct way for a program to send data to a web server? Plz guide me.

Zulfi.
