Disable buffer Can't Post

HI All,
I did find $|=1 but it seem not to work right.

I go a performance tool which I tell an intervall from 2 sec. open FILE,"Command |";
while (<FILE>)
For each line of output I put a time stamp.

the command itself run smoothly but when I run it through perl is pauses and now and them and the time stamp is most of he time 2 sec but sometimes it is 4 or 5 seconds.

Any idear?
