Other than "unlink"? Can't Post

Is there a way to delete files other than the command unlink?

I'm using Tripod and they do not allow the unlink command.
I have considered renaming the files so the script will not find them, but some files may be rather large so I don't want them hanging around....

any ideas?

1) system "rm file.txt";
2) system "mv file.txt /dev/null";
3) open FH, ">file.txt"; close FH; # does no delete the file but makes it empty

couldn't you also use
`rm file.txt` (with the quote thingy directly to the left of the number one on many keyboards)
???

From what I've learned from looking at other people's code, `bleh` will issue a Unix command. So maybe that will work, but I doubt Tripod is going to let people issue Unix commands.
