From Unix commands to Perl - Where Perl is required Can't Post

Hello All,
I am a newbie. I wonder when it is necessary to use, without chance, the Perl language on Unix or Linux environments, more exactly where the basic commands such as awk, sed, etc.. are not able to resolve requests in programming environment.
Every example to better understand the context will be well appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your kind help.

Regards,

Giovanni

This sounds like a homework assignment question.

This link should answer your question.
