Curious about ascii Can't Post

I know, this one's too simple.----If you want to upload a zip file to a website that includes cgi's and image files;
do you use ascii or are your cgi's protected by being zipped. If not, what does ascii do to your image files?
Now don't go DUH! I'm just curious.

Thanks for the input... Just in case anyone is wondering, after uploading the zip in ascii and downloading,, it was
corrupted. I use cuteftp and uploaded in auto detect the second time, it came back fine and the cgi's still worked.
