Help in DBI...? Can't Post

Hello, guys!
I'm working on an e-mail solution using
PHP and Perl. I used PERL as a backend daemon
which checks the POP3 for new e-mail. After checking and retrieving e-mail (if there is one), the mail source should be inserted into a MySQL database which will be the source of my WEB interface (PHP) when a certain user wants to read that mail.

Unfortunately, I'm experiencing a problem regarding DBI because it doesn't display the real message that mysql issues wherever there is an error in my MYSQL. What I'm receiving is this:

"MySQL has gone away"

I really don't know that this means... is there an error with my sql? I think not? or maybemysql does not accept large e-mail data in a LONGTEXT field.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW OF A PERL FUNCTION THAT

replaces all occurrences of " into \" and \ into \\

I need to have this kind of function to make sure that my sql statement will be correct.

Anyone, please help me.???

Please E-mail me juney20@yahoo.com

Re: Help in DBI...? [In reply to] Can't Post

For the first part of your post, I found this message replying to a "MySQL server has gone away" error at http://

What this does is make it so that you don't need to connect/disconnect to mysql for every request. Without this, you will have problems with the database handle disappearing."

For the second part of your message, if you're trying to make your query "safe" for insertion into the SQL query, you should use the quote method provided by DBI:

Code
my $quotedstring = $db->quote($stringtobeescaped)

Hope this helps!

I honestly have no clue what you're referring to -- prepaid dialup system? Is this supposed to be a Perl thing?
