compilation error ActivePerl 5.28 win32 source Can't Post

Hello Experts,

Trying to compile the perl source 5.28. facing the following issues. I don't have a install-able of 5.28 so i could not set the perl path at environment.

Not sure this issue due to the missing path. could you please advise.

link -dll -def:perldll.def -base:0x28000000 -out:..\perl528.dll @Extensions_static @C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\1\nm4D.tmp
perldll.def : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol PL_lc_numeric_mutex
..\perl528.lib : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals
NMAKE : fatal error U1077: '"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\BIN\link.EXE"' : return code '0x460'
Stop.

Thanks.

Compiling perl on Windows requires jumping through additional hoops compared to *nix systems and ActiveState hasn't worked out those hoops yet with 5.28 which is why their current downloadable (compiled) version is 5.26.

I haven't compiled perl on Windows, so I can't give you the proper solution to do that compilation.

My suggestion is to install Strawberry perl instead of ActivePerl. I switched to strawberry perl a long time ago because of the problems installing modules with ActiveState. Granted, they have gotten better, but they are still far behind strawberry perl.

Thanks For the great reply. Problem is the code is very legacy one and our project is almost 20 rs older codes. hence we are still maintaining the code with active perl. Will be discussing with team to switch over to the strawberry perl.

Thanks.
