date Can't Post

I am learning from a book and it has an introductory data collection/email results perl programme.
lines 4&5 are:
$dateCommand="date";
$time='$dateCommand';
I can see that these are assigning scaler values but what happens is that it prints the line into the email
Also
The programme assigns a name to a text box
The email prints the name of the text box instead of the contents.
As far as I can see my typing is correct.
Can anybody advise me how to get past this please?

Re: date [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm not sure what you are trying to ask. Your post is a little confusing. Maybe if you attach a text file with the complete source code for the script and also some sample output. Then I could probably get an idea of what you're looking for.
