not printint file correctly to screen Can't Post

alright, my scripts kinda messed, when i create the file, (via cgi form) it makes little squares in the file... i dunno what these little things are there for, but non the less they are, its where the newline should be... now, when i print the file to the screen (via opening it through a perl script) it gives me everything BEFORE the little square, can someone gimmie a hand?
thanks!

does it print the entire file properly to the screen?
what program do you use to open the files? Programs like notepad don't translate metacharacters properly and replace them with the little black squares.
