Microsoft Access Interface Can't Post

Hi Folks,

Has anyone worked with Microsoft Access database files in Perl? I have a client who wants to import data from an online database to an internal Access database, and I was wondering if I could output Access formatted tables, or if I'm stuck with outputting tab delimited text files which they will have to import and integrate manually?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Microsoft Access Interface [In reply to] Can't Post

The easiest way is to use DBD::ODBC, the DBI driver for ODBC (Open Database Connectivity). This is the best method for portability. For example, if you later wanted to use an Oracle database, you can simply use the DBD::Oracle driver instead. Assuming you didn't use any driver-specific commands in your program, it'll work for both databases (and for any database with a DBD::Driver).

Or, you can play with Win32::ODBC, which is part of the standard libwin32 library.

Either way, you'll need to define the Access database as an ODBC source in Windoze's Control Panel under ODBC.

Hope this is enough to get you started...
