Posting CURRENT viewers to page...stats? Can't Post

Hey,
anyone have an idea how this might be accomplished to an EXISTING site.

when people log into the site, I want to keep count of current viewers. so if 5 people were viewing the site at the same time, somewhere on my page it will say "5 people currently logged on".....

How would I accomlish this...cookies, my mind is not working properly...any help here?

If you click the "Who's Online" link at the top of this page it will show who has done something in the last 10 minutes. So following that model, you could look into the access log for all links less than 10 minutes old, and then grab the unique users in the first field of the line.
