Help not sure what it is called Can't Post

hey,
i was wondering (not even quite sure if it is javascript) but how do you put those little scrolling messages on the status bar of the web browser? If it isnt javascript what is it and where can i find it?

Always add fun to Perl
$fun = "fun"; $perl = "Perl";
print " Always add $fun to $perl"; die;

Yep, it's javascript. Check out http://javascript.internet.com/scrolls/.

I imagine there are lots of alternatives, but here's one. Put it inside of your <HEAD></HEAD> tags:

Code
<script language="JavaScript">
msg = " text to scroll"
pos = 0;
function ScrollMessage() {
window.status = msg.substring(pos, msg.length) +
msg.substring(0, pos);
pos++;
if (pos > msg.length) pos = 0;
window.setTimeout("ScrollMessage()",100);
}
ScrollMessage();
</script>

No guarantees on this one ... I just found it on the web.

(And yes, the script I found was missing the ";" after the msg line.)

Thanks James that script works really well. Just wondering, everytime i put my mouse over a link that link tries to appear on the status bar making the message that is scrolling kinda static. Is there any solution to this or do you just have to grin and bear it?

I have no idea. Like I said, I just grabbed that script from another application. I noticed the little *burp* on the mouseover, but it's not a problem for what I'm using it for.

You might check some of the other scripts at the URL that Jasmine posted. I imagine you could find one or two that let you define some of the settings.

Oy, yeah i will check out that site in just a sec. I have seen it in some sites where they take out the show link in the status bar. Maybe there is a command like the disable right click thing.

print " Always add $fun to $perl"; die;
